The money nobody sees

You tap “pay” and the coffee is yours. That second of indifference is the highest compliment a payment system can receive – when infrastructure works, it disappears. My job is building exactly that invisible layer: routing, authorization, fraud screening, compliance checks and settlement, all agreeing in milliseconds. In Latin America that challenge multiplies – a checkout that works in São Paulo doesn’t automatically work in Mexico City or Bogotá, each market with its own dominant methods and regulators. The numbers show the real scale of this – mobile now drives 55.5% of the region’s online retail sales, and remittances into Latin America surpassed $156 billion in 2023. I’d rather build the road than paint one more car – a checkout that approves 95% of transactions beats one that looks perfect and approves 88%.
